First some housekeeping: I've contacted Ender about the spam comments. There's thousands from our friends in China, so my apologies, but I'll wait and let him clear that user out. Also, are there really people who believe you get paid for posting comments with links? I thought that latest "hey, get paid real money for doing next to nothing!" scam got debunked.
Second, how 'bout those Saints? New Orleans needed that, and the team earned it.
Third...Sarah Sarah Sarah. But, how can one expect the right to clean up their own house with the Left doing just as badly? When will we learn that both sides are just telling us what we want to hear and won't actually govern according to what they give lip service to? Oh, that's right, we like to identify with the "smart" tribe. It makes us feel better about ourselves. Whatever ;-)
What's on your mind?

Writing stuff on one's hands is cool
It lets you become a martyr and gets one's base to rally 'round the family with a pocket full of shells.
In our society, people are rewarded for pretending to be certain about things they're clearly not certain about. -- Sam Harris,
I wish Paul Ryan's budget
got more attention than Palin's handwriting. A media outlet need to try to trick people into caring about what's important.
A Bill of Rights Deal or no Deal! Celebrity Constitutional Law Jeopardy!
Photos of Carrie Prejean embedded in budget proposals!
Healthcare thunderdome! Two bills enter, one survives the Filibuster of death!
OK maybe I'm too cynical, but somebody needs to try this dammit. We cannoodle kids into learning about the alphabet with muppets; why not try it with adults?
I'll give him this. He's the most honest Republican about it.
He's very up front about Republicans desire to eliminate MediCare & Social Security. I'll give him credit. Have you seen the leadership's faces when they've been confronted with Ryan's plans? Boehner looked like he was gonna faint. Very tongue tied. You could tell he wouldn't say outright he wanted to eliminate SS & Medicare but he wouldn't quite deny it either.
I say, bring it up and make them vote on it.
I wonder
If many conservatives fear of "public health care" is tied to fears of them ignoring the intentional mass deaths caused by Mao and Stalin, and chalking that up to "gov't ineptness" or it's many conservatives in fear that health care won't be rationed by how much a certain piece of cloth on has.
There are some legitimate concerns, as with all things, but it seems that even the conservatives that aren't the types getting attention on this issue, seem to have Freudian fears that the current rationing system of health care and true death panels will be shaken up.

Oh please
That's about the silliest thing I've seen you write.
Let's not make any effort whatsoever to actually understand other people's point of view. Tis much easier to spout nonsense, I suppose. Of course it's about Mao and Stalin. Yeah, that's it, it's always Mao

Or Perhaps
You don't know the people I know. There are people that can safely be summed up the way I described. They do exist in some numbers. If you're saying it's nonsense that it's possibly many, that's one thing, but if you don't think it's a sizable minority, then you got another thing coming.

The plural of anecdote
is not data.
We all know or know of fringe elements of all political persuasions. Just because your crazy neighbor thinks X, it does not follow that all conservatives think X.

I wasn't trying to imply
that all or nearly all, just opining that it might be many.
There are more than a few whose Cliff' Notes version of why public health care won't work is effectively, Mao and Stalin would be in power.
They are not that few.

Isn't it lovely how
these trashy paranoid conspiracy theories are intentionally spoon fed to this easily persuadable minority by the elite thinkers in the conservative movement. Glenn Beck reads books. He holds them up while he is wearing glasses! If PF is asserting that your post was silly or baseless then she isn't paying attention.
In case anyone missed it the Nullification Party of John C Calhoun is making a comeback. Good old Abe ruined the country by winning the Civil War. They try to tell us that blacks were way a lot happier when they were property because plantation owners treated them so well, letting them sleep in the barn with the other farm animals to shelter them from the elements. Don't they know how good they had it?
I'm only half stupid
Compliments to New Orleans & Sarah Palin.
New Orleans was great. I didn't think they were the better team but it was pretty decisive.
Sarah, because at the Tea Party she said she didn't want the Tea Partys to have leaders or be associated with a particular party. Now maybe it's what that crowd wanted to hear. My question is, which Sarah am I supposed to believe now? Earlier on Fox she had said she wanted the Tea Party to influence the Republican Party from within. She said she wanted the Tea Party to be incorporated into Republican thoughts & actions.
Choices, choices.
They held their own
Against a supremely talented offense, and somehow made Manning lose his cool in the 2nd half. They were the better team in the sense they played the better game.
Palin: why give her any attention? I'm sick of manufactured Outrages of the Week. She has no real power (at least until she starts winning primaries) and shows no substance. If Palin didn't exist some other mouth-breathing simplistic corporate hack could mouth the same platitudes to charm the teabaggers.
Yes, of course. But I would love it if
they nominated Palin to run. Now that would be fun.
Yea I agree about the game to. It was a fun game to watch. After that interception, it was too much to overcome.
Manning ain't an idealized
Manning ain't an idealized thought experiment of what some want God to be. He throws stupid passes from time to time like all QBs, even some that work are stupid, he just throws those A LOT less than most, and he has great accuracy.
That INT was him doing what he always does, there will be always a few times where the DB takes the correct educated guess, and decides to act on that guess at the right moment.
There is a TON of chance in football, but the amount of times one gets "lucky" is highly correlated to skill, effort, and the team/coaching staff around you.
In our society, people are rewarded for pretending to be certain about things they're clearly not certain about. -- Sam Harris,
I'm spoiled. I lived through Joe Montana & Steve Young years
as a Niners fan. I don't think I'll ever see that kind of era again. Not out here. The current owners of both the Giants & the 49ers want to maximize their profits more than field the best team they can. I won't even go after Al Davis. He'll move on soon enough. He hasn't been up to date since the 60s/70s anyhow so...eh.
It's the Olympics for a while. Now as a good little liberal does that mean that Glenn Beck is right and I should be rooting for my comrades mother Russia & glorious home of Uncle Mao Red China? I'd be mighty confused if I let the Beck wing make my calls for me. Thank god. I feel bad for the Beck/Limbaugh/Fox News bots who do fully believe all the swill they dish.
Question to redbars
What do you guys think of Joe Liebermann? I mean, I'm sure you're amused by his poking us in the eye re: HCR and all. Maybe you admire his hawkishness.
But personality-wise, do you see him as nice and honest, or as the same self-righteous jerk we do? His voice alone drives me up the wall. I couldn't think of a less inspiring presidential candidate.
In comparison, I can kind of admire Coburn's honesty in being obstructionist. I like how he went after the Bridge to Nowhere. Even if he is a bit insane on abortion and rampant high-school lesbianism.
The right acts like he's great when he's screwing the Democrats
but more quietly my conservative friends think he's a dumb unprincipled ego on legs. I know he isn't dumb but I can't get that Jon Stewart impersonation out of my head.
His knife in the back stuff though.....it isn't independence. Take HCR. Joe wanted to sink it because CT is a huge insurance state. Ever drive through Hartford? It's Conneticuters I don't get. How could they vote for Lieberman over Lamont? I have lots of family in CT and spent every summer of my youth on the shore there. I know they really are proud to be Yankee/New England stock....conservative but not rabidly so. More in a quiet way. I don't get it though. Look at Lieberman's other bone headed moves. He wants to attack Iran like no ones business. He was gung ho about attacking Iraq. He supported dubya & Darth's worst constitutional abuses. He campaigned for McCain.
Naaa. Now that we don't need his slimy ass for the 60th votte (like we would ever get it) I say pull his Chairmanship. Let him go Republican. He'd get treated just like that Congressman in Alabama who switched.
Joe now is a nobody and for that I am thankful.
So sad to see an old friend molder away.
yea...we've all got lives elsewhere. Especially now. I kind of hope with a new election season coming up in the fall we might get some return visits once again. The discussions are the reason to go to any site after all....well, other than Amazon or E-bay.
Anyway....Hope all is well with everybody. Peace & goodness to one and all.
Ditto
It hits me especially hard when I'm cleaning up the spam. They're usually posted to old threads. Reminds me of when things were active here. Surely this place can be more fun than wherever folks are hanging out now? Even dKos is boring to read.
I was hoping GoRight, RedWing, et al might at least drop by to gloat a little about how ineffective the Democrats have been at pushing any of the agenda they ran on. You have to admit, the ruling party has a bit of a whiff of the Keystone Cops about them these days.

Re: the moldering of SC.
I posted here often because of my passion for my beliefs. I think the other side is wrong, and because I enjoy writing.
If you consider the argument fun, then this site can be fun, but I can't recall anyone changing their point of view due to an argument from one side or the other. Even knocienz's flawless presentations and visionary arguments never moved 'the most logical one' from his views.
I was lambasted as the cause of the lack of participation here at SC, though I see that posting activity has fallen off since I left. I woulda thunk that the place would be busy with deeply intellectual lengthy and fascinating debates since I have made myself scarce.
I'm only half stupid
You didn't drive anyone away, ML
What prevents me from posting more these days is a lack of enthusiasm for commenting on the current situation, not anything by another poster.
As for your labasting, many of the lambasters were criticizing you for the same kind of thing they were doing themselves.
We all have our styles. I can't think of any non-bluebar here who didn't post a comment I found especially annoying at some point. And I don't doubt many of them feel the same way about mine.
Ha!
Stating the obvious there bud.
Speaking of different styles, one of the old blue posters here, a staunch Hillary supporter, Mike Pridmore, worked hard to get Eric Massa elected! Yikes! I wonder how he feels about that today.
My detective work has revealed that Mike was so enamored of Hillary that he was posting on the PUMA site NoQuarter! Verrrrryyyyy interesting and Wow!
