In a word: WOW
Hello all. Things are great. Hope all is well. While I haven't been following politics much lately, I have been peeking in at polls in the last week or so as the elections approach to see how the idiots clogging up my TV with silly ads are doing (ads that aren't any different in terms of solid content than late night infomercials promising you millions if you follow a few easy steps...what does "earn up to $10,000 per month or more" mean anyway?? Whatever.). Anyway, I am stunned at how well the GOP is doing. I figured they'd do well based on the stupidity of the Dems these past few years but this is insane.
I also giggle at how the GOP finds their voice when they are in the minority. What will they do with that voice? Not much I predict. They sound better in marketing than they do in actual practice. But that's politics I guess.
Nonetheless, I am happy that the GOP will clobber the Dems in a few weeks. The Dems deserve it every bit as much as the GOP did a few years ago. What good will come of it? I doubt much. But it's nice to see the vicious backlash.
When will the Dems realize that a majority of this country really doesn't like them or their deeper economic agendas? Sadly, once in power, the GOP will quickly forget why a lot of people don't like them either.
Carry on, people. We'll see if this ends up being a blessing for Obama as it was for Clinton in 94.

Prop 19 hasn't passed yet, put down the pipe.....
Democrats aren't popular but Republicans are even less popular if you trust polls.
Tell you what though the ads of this season's campaign are awful. The NRA is blanketing the airwaves out here saying the Democrats are going to take away your guns....not true, democrats decides early on not to touch guns. Karl Rove's American Crossroads ads & the Chamber of Commerce ads just says nothing but bs. Total lies yet I don't hear any of the Village Elders criticising them. They'll get the vapors over Aqua Budda, even though Aqua Budda is true. I will say that the Democrats ads are just about as bad. I only hear them 1/10th the time though. Take a bow Justice Roberts, your Citizen's United ruling is a game changer.
I'm not sure what to expect post election. I don't think Republicans will take the Senate. Not sure about the House. Even saying that, I suspect the Republicans won't actually start legislating. I think they'll keep doing nothing and acting mad about everything.
So....Republicans are crazy this year. President Obama isn't a socialist. He's not even a liberal. He's another moderate. I can only pray the US doesn't face another 9/11 type attack, Republicans wouldn't come together with Democrats, they'd only try & use it to their own partisan advantage. & the media will swallow it hook line & sinker.
Go Giants!!!!
Obama a moderate??
It's hard to know what he is, really. He's increased our troops in Afghanistan and Pakistan, dropped drones on innocent civilians from afar, killing, sickening and maiming tons of them, his "Operation New Dawn" policy in Iraq is modeled on that of our policy in El Salvador in the 1980's, during the Reagan years, his healthcare bill that was recently passed is a big scam in more ways than one, and the fact that Obama allowed abortion rights to get thrown under the bus to get that thing passed is equally, if not more disgraceful.
Obama doesn't have to gumption to pointedly tell Israel to get their troops and settlers the hell out of West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem and allow the Palestinians to create their own independent, sovereign nation-state in those territories alongside israel, he allowed BP to run amok in the Gulf, by permitting a deep-water (100 miles offshore) oil-drilling job, which, in turn, created the biggest oil gusher in our environmental history. This horrific oil gusher not only took the lives of 11 oil rig workers, but destroyed the ecosystems that sustain other forms of life and inflicted long-lasting, if not permanent damage to the Gulf itself. The lives, health, livelihoods, welfare and well-being of thousands, if not millions of Gulf-area residents were totally destroyed, besides.
The fact that Obama allowed BP to cover up their tracks and keep on managing this whole mess is equally, if not more disgraceful.
Back to the healthcare "reform" bill that was passed; That's a warmed-over, 20 year old GOP-written body of legislature that bails out the insurance companies, but not the people. The fact that protection for people with pre-existing conditions won't kick in until 2014 (4 years from now), is really disgraceful, and there are no cost controls, either. People will experience sharp hikes in premiums, co-payments and deductibles, and many people who've already bought healthcare insurance prior to the passage and enactment of this body of legislature will be forced to ratchet down what they've already got in the way of healthcare. The fact that it's illegal not to buy healthcare is ludicrous and dangerous on the face of it. Moreover, it won't improve the quality of healthcare in this country, either. I'm no less supportive of healthcare reform here in the United states either. We need it. However, imho, this healthcare "reform" bill has far too much wrong with it to be feasible, and, the idea that it can be "tweaked" for improvements is a bunch of BS.
What Obama and the Democrats in Congress could've and should've done, imho, was to do away with this GOP bill entirely, gone back to the drawing board, really put their heads together and constructed and implemented a genuine healthcare reform bill that entailed Single Payer with Universal healthcare/Medicare for ALL Americans. Instead, they took the easy way out and signed a toxic, warmed-over POS Republican-written "healthcare reform bill" into law after passing it. The fact that abortion rights were thrown under the bus to get this healthcare "reform" bill passed and enacted is equally, if not more disgraceful.
I didn't vote for Obama, because I saw all this coming when he voted for the FISA Bill and the continued funding for our war in Iraq, promised to escalate and extend and expand our war in Afghanistan, and when he took the exact same positions as John McCain during our pre-POTUS Election Foreign policy debate.
I also might add that what Obama and Geitner did to Elizabeth Warren is equally repulsive, although she kind of did it to herself, too; Instead of making her the head of the Financial Reform agency that the Obama Administration supposedly created, he's had her report to him and Geithner. If Elizabeth Warren is as smart and tough as people are making her out to be, she'd tell Obama and Geithner to go straight to hell and not accept anything less than what she's qualified for. Too bad she allowed herself to be shoved into that corner.
"Don't like their agendas"
I think it's more like "effectively just like the sound of GOP talking points more, in general."
In our society, people are rewarded for pretending to be certain about things they're clearly not certain about. -- Sam Harris,
It ain't the results I like, but it isn't the end of the earth
either. Out here in California, we did OK. Generally we elected good people to most offices. Yea another proposition passed that requires all increases in fees or taxes to need a 2/3 majority to pass. That'll ham-string our government even more. But the other stuff...OK. Not the bloodbath it could have been had the republicans nominated decent people instead of running the crazys they always do. They could have a majority, but they demand such purity (narrow filed of view) that the scare off the moderates.
I don't mind a divided government. In the past, there have been times it functioned well. I'm not convinced Republicans want that yet. I'm pretty sure most of 'em still want to take a wrecking ball to the whole thing. Let's see if they are able to vote to raise the Natl debt ceiling. If the insane wing takes control, there could be hell to pay world wide.
I'm not unhappy that 1/2 the crap for brains blue dogs got wiped. Screw them. I don't mind moderates and I don't even mind conservatives but it depends what you stand for. You gotta have something like minded. Too many of them didn't & when you run against the principles of the party...well, what good are ya? McConnell's statements bother me. I don't think it's appropriate for a politician to say the most important thing going forward is decimating your oposition at the expense of carrying out the peoples business. It's not just tacky, it puts ego above responsibility. Really now....that's the most important thing that needs to take place over the next two years? That's so shallow. It's unworthy. It's childish. Sowing mines worked when republicans didn't have any responsibility. I don't think it should work now. Now they are part of it. Now they OWN it.
I like Obama's statements. He's been measured. He's said the right things about working with the opposition. Why can't republicans want that? Why do they demand it all?
Another blog pulls the plug
I would stop by Docudharma every so often to see the left from a slightly different perspective than the Great Orange, and was sad but not entirely unsurprised to see this post
this morning. Faced with the unrelenting frailty of mankind, budhydharma has reached his personal limit, for now at least, and has decided to pull the plug on his blog.
Maybe it's my age, but futility no longer scares me. Maybe it's because I came to grips with the loss of the tigers thirty years ago.
I hope we all keep shouting, in whatever way we can manage.
We have much to be thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving all....
