Beats my original topic:  "President Obama -- Fibber or Multidimensional Chess Player?  Discuss"

Really though, GR, you have to be happy.   I'm trying to find any difference between what Obama has done and what McCain would have done, and I'm not succeeding.

This latest attempt to put lipstick on a pig was too painful to watch.    Seriously, this guy is a Democrat?

Edit:  there is one.  I have a hard time believing that McCain would have stood there with a straight face and agreed it was vital to strip search and/or grope the labia of grandmas and three-year-olds, and to check the sanitary napkins of all menstruating females, or else the terrorists would win.

…………

Neither Republicans or the Democrats are smart.

 Nor are they any good, for both the Democrats and the GOP were long bought out by the great big corporations and the war chest.

Wow!

I finally made it to the front page!  :)

Now, I was just throwing a taunt out there but you seem to have hit on an interesting topic. Is Obama a Democrat because he has been doing everything McCain would have done?

I would say yes, that pretty much makes him a Democrat in my mind.  McCain was a RINO at best and I have always viewed him as an enemy to our principles.  So why would that make me happy?

Obama has been spending money faster than anyone on record as far as I can tell.  He makes Bush look absolutely frugal which is truly hilarious since we all hated Bush for his fiscal policies anyway.  But what has all this spending got us?  Nothing but a deficit that will never be repaid and "Quantitative Easing" (a.k.a. using the fed to inflate your dollars since he can't seem to get a good ol' Carteresque inflation going on its own).

The damage to America that Obama has been able to achieve in such a short time is truly impressive.  It would be funny if it weren't an actual catastrphe of epic proportions which will put back-breaking debt onto our grandchildren at the very least (if not even further on down the line).

I had to laugh when Obama was forced to enlist Clinton to sell his tax deal with the Republicans.  He couldn't get the job done himself so he had to bring in slick Willy.  And what did Willy have to say about it?  Keep the tax cuts because they are the only thing that works!  Willy's out of office so I guess he can speak truth to "power" now.  He he.

So do you think Billary will be able to steal the Democrat nomination away from Obama in 2012?  That would be "Hilary-ous" to watch, no?

Meet the new boss

I was thinking more along the lines of "Would McCain have vetoed anything that Obama chose to sign, or would he have taken any executive actions that Obama would have not?". And the answer I keep coming back to is No. Thus, from this voter's point of view, someone who voted for McCain has gotten the same type of president in Obama as the one they voted for. Now, I understand that McCain wasn't the conservative ideal but those were the choices in 2008.

The spending is appalling. And for what? It's analogous to cheering for GM as a success story: get back to me on that in a couple of years. Let's be fair though and agree that defense related spending has also got to be reined in.

And not a peep out of the slawart defenders of those quaint things we used to call the Bill of Rights, or the concept of equality before the law. The Democrats were all freaked out about a handful of people who were denied their rights in the war on terror, believing it was the end of democracy. Now we have millions undergoing strip searches just to be allowed to travel. Of course, the rich and powerful are not subject to those searches. But hey, it's okay if you're a Democrat.

Unless the Republicans field an absolute dog, Obama is a one term president. Who except a hyperpartisan will be foolish enough to believe a word that he says this time around? RE Hillary: I doubt she'd mount a challenge. The Democrats will circle the wagons and perform whatever mental gymnastics they need to to justify his failure to live up to any of his campaign promises.

That's not true....I mean the defenders of the bill of rights.

You haven't read much Glenn Greenwald have you? Bloggers (some) and little people bitch about the continuation of the policies that bush43 brought on (holding people without charge, tapping phones/e-mail/houses/cars without a warrant) All the Patriot Act bullcrap. Are you bringing it up because the leadership or the members of Congress don't talk about it? There I'd agree with you but in all honesty, what do you think we would have gotten had McCain/Palin won? It'd be worse. Totalitarianism sucks no matter who runs the show.

You've changed pf. Your descriptions of your political opponents mimics Fox's descriptions. They aren't accurate or even close. They are caricatures of Democrats.

Let's contrast. Look at Republicans. They came in saying they were going to slash the deficit and restore the common man. What do they do first & second? They move to increase the deficit by exempting themselves with their laws. They hire every lobbyist who ran the country into the ground during the bush43 reign to run the country again....for corporations....the common man be damned. They lied to the people they got to vote for them.

Your also wrong about Obama. he is going to beat whom ever the Republicans put up there. Just wait and see. Republicans can throw bricks & tear things down but they can't build things up. They are going to make a mockery of the House of Representatives.

Stop drinking the KoolAide.

Let's be objective

Ah, enough with the sterotypes already ;-)  Of course anyone who is critical of this Administration gets their brains from Fox News.  I get that.  But you sidestepped the question:  If McCain/Palin had won, with this Congress, would McCain have done anything differently the last two years than what Obama has done?   Examples, please.   With the possible exception of vetoing the health care bill, and I'm not so certain he would have done so, I cannot think of a single bill or executive action that would have likely been different.   If you can, I'd love to hear about it.    McCain might have done *more* executively (i.e. independently of Congressional action), but again, I can't really come up with an example of what that might have been.  Can you?

"Not a koolaid-drinking Democrat" does not equal "Koolaid-drinking Republican".

And no, I don't watch Fox.  BTW, the "Fox News is Brainwashing Everyone" meme doesn't really hold up to rational scrutiny.  Assuming a population of 300 million, with viewership at a high of 2.2 million but averaging, say, to be generous, about 1 million, that means roughly anywhere from 0.3% to 0.7% of the population is actually watching Fox.

…………

It's kinda odd

I only hear this "anointed one" and "Messiah" talk from certain people. Obama is their own made up false prophet.

Obama's tears don't even cure cancer.

I think it's clear that Obama is a secret RINO sent forth from the non-continental US, after other-type of RINO's stated a plan to so after he was born (that sentence and idea is not convoluted Robin)

Oh, GR

hehehe

Nice lightning rod topic.

Yes, Dems are morons because they feel their agenda is possible as they envision it. And they cry when their technocratic nonsense backfires and creates new tangents of problems.

But let's not forget what morons most Republicans are. What few good republicans there are is totally irrelevant to anything. The GOP establishment is a bunch of morons as well because they sometimes talk a good talk and most often take asinine actions...like there Dem brethren. But in the end, the GOP voting bloc is too full of idiots who will crucify their candidates for doing anything remotely good beyond cutting taxes.

Well, at least public choice professors are never at a loss for material. It comes out everyday.

I am still in the wait and see mode

But I like their idiocy just as much as you do :)

We'll see what happens next. I am not holding my breath though.

I wish the same about the Party...

I go to sites like Redstate and they turn me off in a matter of minutes. The amount of people who inhabit the Republican universe that are intolerable lunatics has grown. Of course they are still a whole lot better than anything on the partisan Dem side, but it hurts to see the gulf.

I guess it's also that my own path has moved further away from the GOP, but I have to believe that it's not just me.

Palin nauseates me. Not the fact that she is stupid and completely unfit to be a political leader, but the fact that so many "conservatives" are mindlessly promoting her as something real and substantive. It's what she represents that dispirits me.

Palin's rock-star popularity with conservatives

tells me how un-conservative I am. There's maybe 5-6 GOP Congressmen that I can say I generally like and consider somewhat like-minded to me. Senators? I struggle to the think of one and I'd have to loosen by parameters a bit to find one.

And when it comes to actual card-carrying conservative voters around me in my world, I just grin and roll my eyes (when they aren't looking) at a lot of the crap they say.

I like Palin!

I can't actually articulate why.  It's not that she is a stellar intellectual, but then again I don't actually find her to be stupid either.  She's at least as intelligent as Obama and Carter.  I guess I just think that she's actually an honest person and tells people what she really thinks.  It makes her genuine and real which means a lot to me.

I don't really even know the details of what she says on the topic du jour (i've been ignoring politics).  I just like the general theme and direction and values that she expresses.  Couple that with being honest and I'd vote for her.  She can't be worse by any stretch of the imagination than Obama, or Clinton, or that pinnacle of Democratdom ... Jimmy Carter.

I actually started watching her television show which, as it turns out, I also like.  Not for political commentary but just because it makes her seem real and it is about Alaska which I like.  I like the general way of thinking that I think the average Alaskan would express.  :)

Politically, and without thinking about it too much, I guess I simply like her for all the reasons that the Democrats hate her.  That shouldn't be surprising as I think that the professional Democratic politicians are wrong on most issues and I find most of their arguments to be total twaddle tied to irrational emotional pleas.  But hey, who doesn't think everything is about "the kids"?

If she runs I'll vote for her (unless someone I like better comes along), but I don't think that she is going to run.

You like her because you think liberals hate her.........no other reason really, just schadenfreude and only that.

```'I don't really even know the details of what she says on the topic du jour (i've been ignoring politics). I just like the general theme and direction and values that she expresses. "
Anti-liberal, anti-reality, money making chutzpah.
```"Couple that with being honest and I'd vote for her."

If she gets the GOP nod for POTUS candidate, that's the only conceivable way I'd vote for Obama, and that's only if Ohio was close.
Don't make me vote for Obama.

A politician, gets on a "reality" show, and that makes you think they are real...jiminy cricket.

agreed

Unfortunately that's the reason some sane people like her - "You like her because you think liberals hate her"...

My atheist friend who is a very intelligent right winger and despises anything liberal, recently started on a love affair with Palin. He is advocating her "honesty", "refreshing patriotism", "anti-socialism", and the fact that all the libs hate her. Oh and she is not that dumb.
