Following the money shows that, again, Obama = George W. Bush

As with all things, to find the truth just follow the money:

U.S. denies support for Syrian opposition tantamount to regime change

Here are the highlights:

  • WikiLeaks cables reveal U.S. financing for groups seeking to overthrow Syria's al-Assad

  • At least $6 million has gone for anti-government programs inside Syria, according to cables

  • The State Department denies it is seeking to undermine al-Assad's regime

  • A department spokesman says the U.S. is trying to build "democratic institutions"

Obama's administration seems to be saying one thing and doing another.  Specifically it appears that they are lying about not pushing regime change in Syria just like the liberals claimed Bush was doing regarding the war in Iraq.

Targetting $6 Million at Syrian anti-governement programs speaks for itself.  Whether you are George W. Bush spending money on the military during the Afganistan and Iraq wars (something that Obama continues to do today, BTW), or you are Brack Obama spending money to undermine the Syrian government from within, either way regime change is in the air.

Interestingly, Obama's administration seems to have also adopted one of Bush's primary obfuscating claims to defend its own actions: we're just supporting Democracy around the world.  This is yet another act being adopted by Obama directly out of the Bush play book! [1]

So there you have it, yet another example of how Obama is just a reincarnation of George W. Bush: he's building nations around his own notion of Democracy.

Here's another take on the whole issue:

U.S. Fears Syrian Reprisals After WikiLeaks Disclosure

Senior Obama administration officials worry that the Syrian government may seek to exact revenge on members of an opposition group that has received millions of dollars in covert American funding, Fox News has learned.

The Movement for Justice and Development, founded by Syrian exiles and based in London, has received an estimated $6 million in U.S. funding since 2006, according to documents obtained by the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks and first reported by The Washington Post. The group operates Barada TV, a London-based satellite channel that broadcasts anti-government programming into Syria , as well as other programs aimed at destabilizing the authoritarian regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

...

This concept of covertly attempting to effect regime change is reminiscent of Operation PBFORTUNE which traces back to the CIA and the Democrat Presidency of Harry S. Truman . [2]  It's basically the same plan: fund and support the anti-government forces already found within the target country.

Operation PBSUCCESS was a revived version of Operation PBFORTUNE (which had only been terminated because it had been discovered) and was subsequently put into action by the CIA under the Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower .

Another example woud be the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion where the CIA aided Cuban exiles under the Democrat Presidency of John F. Kennedy .  The Bay of Pigs Invasion was planned by CIA Director Allen Dulles after his prior success in Guatemala using plans tracing back to Operation PBFORTUNE.

[1] Note the sarcasm and the irony found in this paragraph.  :)

[2] Operation PBFORTUNE was the name of a contingency plan drafted by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency in 1951 that outlined a method of ousting Guatemalan President Jacobo Arbenz if he was deemed a Communist threat in the hemisphere.

My, haven't you been a busy beaver

Obama also breathes oxygen-- just like George W. Bush.

Gosh, a full $6 million... Bush spent one hundred thousand times that much in Iraq.  Kind of a stretch to make that comparison, GR, you gotta admit that!

Interetingly, Assad-- who is not a good guy and who we would like to see out of there-- is in trouble.  Looks like Obama is getting rid of more middle east tyrants than Bush for a fraction of the price!  That's what I like to see-- efficiency.  I might have to upgrade Obama from a B to a B+ if this keeps up!
