Gas Prices Hit $5 per Gallon on Obama's Watch
A combination of Obama's energy policies which keep us dependent on foreign oil coupled with speculation over the unrest in the Middle East have caused gas prices to skyrocket to record highs.
EDITORIAL: Gas prices and the Gulf oil spill
Following last year’s spill, President Obama seized on the crisis to advance his radical green energy agenda, imposing a six-month moratorium on new deepwater oil-drilling permits in the Gulf and ordering a halt to all deepwater drilling operations already under way. He also reinstated a decades-old prohibition he had just lifted on oil and gas drilling along the coasts of the Atlantic states and northern Alaska. While much of the gas-price escalation has occurred since February when turmoil erupted in oil-rich Libya, Mr. Obama’s drilling ban has left the United States powerless to counter the effect of disruption on Mideast oil production with an upsurge in domestic production. Uncertainty of supply now injects a fear-factor additive into each costly gallon.
$5 Gas Hits Connecticut; $6-Plus Predicted For Tri-State Very Soon
STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) — With the unrest in the Middle East, some economists say $5 a gallon gas will become the norm.
At first you might have thought your eyes were playing tricks on you, but they weren’t. Gas prices
hit $4.99 for premium in Stamford on Wednesday, reports CBS 2’s Scott Rapoport.

Gas hit $6/gallon under Bush, right here in Ohio!
:-)
skymutt: accept no substitutes!
I was unaware of that.
Thanks for pointing it out. The short term cause in either case is the same, speculators.
It changes nothing with respect to the substance of the post though. Obama's policies are exacerbating the situation whereas Bush's polciies were focused on improving it. After all, Bush started 2 wars to protect our access to the oil, right? Obama is doing everything he can to restrict our access to it.
Less oil = higher prices in the long term and encourages the sepculators to boot.

"Bush's polciies were focused on improving it."
Were Bush's policies really focused on improving an already-bad situation?? Hmmm....I don't think so. They made already bad situations worse, but also agree that Obama's policies have also exacerbated already-bad situations, as well.
I also might add, however, that gasoline prices here in Massachusetts, even with regular gasoline, have reached, or gone well up over the four-dollar-a-gallon mark.
Drill baby, drill.
I was speaking more generally than just the middle east. Liberals (not that you're a Liberal) can't have it both ways. Either Bush was in the pockets of big oil and doing everything he could to promote their interests (i.e. selling more oil), or he wasn't.
Obama clearly isn't. In fact he is more that willing to let the price of energy skyrocket to pay back the green wing of his party for their support. Country, economy, and society be damned.

G. W. Bush was in the pockets of big oil, doing everything to promote their interests and selling more oil, and , for that matter, so is Obama. The price of oil skyrocketed under G. W. Bush, and it's continuing to skyrocket under the Obama Administration. That, imo, says something right there.
