Revealed: Bush's Real Iraq War Plan

Hey everyone. Sorry to be so scarce lately, even scarcer than usual. I've been working day and night the last few days. We had a big event at my paying job (teaching) on Monday night that I was partially responsible for and I've been working on the DFA Grassroots All-Stars Contest for Eric Massa in all the free time I could find. You can read about the contest here: DFA Grassroots All-Stars Contest

The contest was scheduled to end tonight at midnight but has been extended to 9am Thursday morning because of a server crash on Monday night. Last weekend our team came from behind to make it to the runoff and now we need to come from behind to win. If you feel so inclined, please vote for Eric. What follows is an Eric Massa diary posted on dKos this morning. (link )

Revealed: Bush's Real Iraq Victory Strategy

There is no winning when your soldiers are stuck in the middle of another country's civil war. And what we have in Iraq is a civil war between the Shia and the Sunnis with the Kurds hoping to stay out of the way. There is no possible military victory for us. With increased troop levels I'm guessing that President Bush might have thought that he could make Baghdad look more secure and then maybe fool us into thinking that meant we could duplicate that success elsewhere and still maintain security in Baghdad. But whatever he was thinking, or perhaps not thinking, the supposed "short term" escalation is utterly failing to provide increased security even in Baghdad.

So what is his real plan for success? His plan is to drag this out long enough to pass it on to whomever wins the 2008 presidential elections. Unless we force him to do otherwise he will keep pretending we are making progress and keep denying reality. And delaying. And accusing his political opponents of cowardice. And delaying some more.

This , from google news, is what is happening in Iraq. Neighborhoods are being walled off to protect a Sunni neighborhood, serving as a stark reminder that there is a Civil War going on. Record numbers of people are being killed and we are steadily losing soldiers. This is not success.

And, as if anyone other than the 9% who approve of him thought he had any credibility left, Vice-President Cheney had this to say in 1991, back when he was still praising diplomacy and living in a reality-based world (link ):

How many casualties should the United States accept in that effort to try to create clarity and stability in a situation that is inherently unstable?

And President Bush once thought timelines were a good idea, back in 1999 when it was a different war (link ):

"I think it’s also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn."

The current Congressman in my district is as wrong on Iraq as they come. Here is a great explanation from one of the local blogs with video. We need to send him home to stay in 2008 and I need your help to do that. Please vote for me in the DFA Grassroots All-Stars Contest. Winning this contest would give some early money and attention to a race that we barely lost in 2006.

I didn't know you were in VT.

You may not be. I just saw the DFA was headquartered there.

Damn I miss Stowe.

Oh, and btw - good job on the DFA.

…………

I'm in Arkansas

Done

and thanks for all of your hard work.

It seems the media is giving some attention to the fact that the majority of Americans agree with the dems that it is time to set some dates to bring our boys home. It is not our war they are fighting over there, and the Iraqi insurgents who want us out can wait us out forever (it is their country after all). Enough is enough.

…………

Thanks!!
