Speaking of Sarcasm
why do those retards at dkos constantly need to point out to their dimwit readers what is "snark" and whatnot? Wait, I think I just answered my own question.
Example:
Halfwit with Kerry's intelligence writes up a non-humorous and incredibly obvious attempt at sarcasm. Something about evils of liberalism, while giving all the great liberal achievements as examples. He doesn't add "snark" as one of the tags for a couple of minutes. The following idiocy ensues:
Butthead: This better be snark, or get ready to get a buttload of donuts
Dimwit: I think this is snark, it can't really be true, can it?
Simpleton: His previous diaries read trollish to me, don't feed the trolls.
Retard: I can't wait for him to post his tipjar so we can send him to freeperville.
Orange Comedian: I think it's snark guys, come on. Look at his diary history, I check it all out and his adherence to Democratic purity is passable.
Blowhard: If it's snark why isn't the word "snark" in the tags?
Wannabe Freedomfighter: Doesn't it defeat the purpose of snark?
Career Liberal: He/she doesn't have the right to offend people like that and spit on our liberal values right on our own blog. This is our home.
Halfwit finally adds a tag "snark" further comments.

Dimwit: hahaha hahahaha ha ha
Simpleton: hah hahaha haha hahaha
Retard: haha funny haha I think he is making fun of Rethugs!
Career Liberal: I think he/she should've put "snark" in from the start because you can't take back offended human feelings.
Orange Comedian: haha I knew haha dumbasses haha funny stuff
Blowhard: It defeats the purpose of the snark if we don't know it's snark in advance.
Orange Newcomer1: ha ha hahahaha hahah ahhahah
Orange Newcomer2: haheheheh ahhahahaha good snark
Smartass: this is poor snark
And so it goes. Dimwits without a sense of humor or intelligence "snarking" away. Oh wait, these are intelligent liberals. ;)
[Edit] For a good example check this one out - I am a racist homophobe - he had to finally add "snark" to the tags and the following sentence - "Yeah, if you haven't figured it out...this is very snarky."

Sarcasm
is difficult to accomplish without the tone of voice cues you get in person.
It is especially hard when reading a writer you aren;t terribly familiar with. I have no way of knowing if the posters you are decribing do know each other but dKos is a big enough site that it's a pretty sure bet that any given poster isn't known well enough by everyone for the sarcasm meter to be finely tuned.

there is some truth to that
but generally sarcasm is detected by some and not detected by others. I just find it hilarious that on dkos you constantly need reminders of what might be sarcasm, and then people start laughing after they find out for sure, but not before.
It's just too stupid, so I had to document the all too common phenomenon.

if you can't write good sarcastic stuff, don't pain everyone else as it almost certainly will be misinterpreted :)

Alright, since you're a humor critic--
I thought this
was a pretty good snark diary of mine-- but several people took it literally! One person was pissed when she found out it was snark and actually unrecommended the diary! Perhaps you can tell me where I went wrong here...
Overall, though, I've been happy with the response to my humorous diaries, and think that most libs have as good a sense of humor as other people.

most conservatives on RW blogs have as poor a sense of humor/sarcasm as the libs. I just focused on the libs because I mostly read lib stuff :)

used to be a fairly decent read. There were a few rabid posters but many offered at least a degree of reason. It has substantially shifted toward the right fringe in the last year or so.
That said I do still read it although I cringe at the ignorance a lot more now.
There are some very good conservative blogs out there. Outside the Beltway is a favorite of mine. I liken James Joyner to a conservative Kevin Drum. That is to say he's certainly not always right but the vast majority of the time he's very reasonable and argues with integrity. Check out his site if you haven't. Eunomia is another pretty good one. And Cunning Realist another.
LGF and FR are just toxic messes. I hope RS doesn't get that bad but with their active purges of anyone who doesn't either agree with them or kowtow to them in abject abasement during disagreements I'm afraid it's likely.

and yes
you overdid it as you had to for the rather humor/intelligence-challenged people over there but most STILL did not get it. A very good example of what I am talking about. Yet those totally accurate IQ polls done on dkos show almost all of them in the genius category. What am I missing?

When I write a humorous diary, it usually makes me laugh, so if nothing else, I get something out of it, even if it's kinda pathetic that sometimes it seems like I might be the only one laughing at my jokes :-)
