Topic Pool for our Swordsmen's Debate
Here are some topics I've been throwing around from the Swordsmen's Debate Idea.
- Dollar-for-dollar tax credit and federal budget reduction for Charity?Would you support a program that lets taxpayers reduce their tax burden by a dollar for every dollar they contribute to mainstream government-approved charities? (This would be chained to a government reduction in local projects this charity would serve).
-Should Public Schools be competitive? Do Public Charter Schools work, and should they have funding and automony in exchange for higher performance standards?
-What changes, if any would you make to our tax system? More Flat/Fair or Progressive, which tax plan should be best if the starting point is our current tax system? What changes can we make?
-Who Should Rebuild New Orleans? The Federal Government? A collection of Private companies and Organizations? Or a mixture? Or should it be re-built at all?
-Should Pensions be Federally Guaranteed? Should the government federally guarantee pensions? Why/Why Not?
-Which Presidential primary selection system would work best? National? Regional? Current? Argue for the best way to select our President going forward.
-What (if anything) would we change from the Affirmative Action plan in the US? Scrap altogether? Base it on economic status? Leave as-is?
-Should nuclear and clean-coal energy sources be included in our alternative energy plans for the US?
- At what rate Should Corporations be taxed?
- At what rate Should high-income earners (200,000+) be taxed?
- At what rate should 401(k) and other interest-earning accounts be taxed?
- How much should government support sex education? Abstinence-only, safe-sex, or a combo?
- Should the U.S. build a physical barrier on the border with Mexico?
- How do you feel about the current U.S. immigration policy on skilled workers/graduate students (H1B-visas)?
- How is multiculturalism affecting U.S. culture? New positive? Net negative?
- Should the U.S. phase out or expand Medicare/Social Security?
- How does inner-city gentrification impact the quality-of-life for said area?
