100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time -- what do you think?

Deadline to move out of FEMA trailers is today : "There's good reason for the move. The trailers can't withstand hurricane winds, and the formaldehyde used to make them -- at five times the safe level -- is making people sick, especially children. But many of the trailer residents have nowhere else to go."

Ted Kennedy is scheduled for brain surgery today . Open thread; what's happening?

an interesting possible McCain VP pick

Speculative frenzy surrounds Gov. Jindal as potential McCain V.P. choice

I didn't know he was a bit of a religious right kind of guy, but still sounds pretty decent. And he is only 36!

"To discuss evil in a manner implying neutrality, is to sanction it." AR

…………

Jindal only recently became governor of Louisiana

And that was mostly because Gov. Blanco had become so unpopular.

He lost the first time he ran for governor because he is Indian and the folks in north Louisiana who normally elect Republicans to statewide office didn't like the idea of a dark-skinned governor.

If Jindal is the VP nominee you can expect a highly negative reaction among the Republican base across the South.

Ender- small issue

my profile here:
http://www.swordscrossed.org/user/8663

is all ^%$#ed up. Looks like it has been changed to direct to some spanish gambling site. It's also changed me to a green constitutionalist (quite the combo that). Sort of amusing in a way since I neither gamble nor speak spanish (and don't get me started on the constitutionalist party) but I can't seem to change it.

Can you fix?

Texas children roped into Islamic training
Class by CAIR teaches: 'There is one god, Allah'

Public school students at Friendswood Junior High in the Houston area have been roped into Islamic training by representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations during class time, prompting religious leaders to protest over Principal Robin Lowe's actions.

Pastor Dave Welch, spokesman for the Houston Area Pastor Council, confirmed the indoctrination had taken place and called it "unacceptable."

"The failure of the principal of Friendswood Junior High to respect simple procedures requiring parental notification for such a potentially controversial subject, to not only approve but participate personally in a religious indoctrination session led by representatives of a group with well-known links to terrorist organizations and her cavalier response when confronted, raises serious questions about her fitness to serve in that role," the pastors' organization said.

The pastors said in a statement: "According to students who were forced to attend these sessions, these Islamic evangelists taught them:

* Adam, Noah and Jesus are prophets

* There is one god, his name is Allah

* The 5 Pillars of Islam

* How to pray five times a day

* Islamic religious garb"

1: Taught them that is what Muslims believe.
2: Taught them that is how things are.

If its 2, there is a problem

But the parent complained the Muslims "were given full attention of our kids, during academic school time, to present their religious beliefs. … This was put right at the end of the school year … which will most likely prevent a Christian response.

I remember having an assembly at my school that revolved around the speaker gaining strength through the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Found this in a link in the story

"jihad" to Muslims means "doing good works."

Because thats what jihad is, a holy war, and a holy war cannot be technically bad to those doing it.

More on SWAT raids

We continue to get these cases where someone with no prior criminal record fires on a team of raiding police officers. And every time, we’re supposed to believe that said person knew the armed men breaking in were cops, and that for whatever reason, each time this person who had shown no prior indication of criminality suddenly turned into a deranged cop killer.

Hardly seems likely, does it? Isn’t the more rational explanation here that these raids are dangerously volatile, confusing, and violent, and put the people on the receiving end of them in understandable fear for their lives?

Isn't that like bringing a knife to a gun fight? (n/t)

………… parent

It's more like

bringing a knife to attack a cop. Stupid but less likely to get you killed than bringing a gun.

The guy shot and injured SWAT guys, he's incredibly lucky to be alive. No matter how justified you may think his position is it's a fact that if you shoot at SWAT they're usually going to shoot back. On the other hand if you taze a SWAT officer it's more likely they'll use non-lethal response bceause you aren't as much of a threat.

Plus "cop taser-er" doesn't have quite the emotional ring as "cop killer."

Supremes to Victims of Wrong House Searches: Deal With It

The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the police can break into your home, rouse you from sleep, hold you naked at gunpoint, and—even if you're completely innocent—you have no recourse, so long as the warrant was valid.

It was an 8-1 decision.

The problem

would seem to be more one of planning than execution. In other words the warrant should never have been issued, but having been issued the police should act on it.

The real question is act on it how?

No knock searches should be banned because they create a situation where innocent people are getting killed by the police. It is one thing when the worst that happens to you is you are forced to stand naked in front of the officers (hmmm, don't a lot of you liberals make the argument that this is torture?), but it is quite another when you end up dead.

Bob Barr is already off to a better start than Ron Paul

for doing one simple thing and doing it quickly, decisively and unequivocally...Barr to Storm Front:

Drop Dead .

Props to the Barr Campaign for making this swift move. Ron Paul refused to do this claiming any support for his message mattered....regardless of who the support came from or how that supporter misinterpreted the meaning of that support and the message Paul was championing. So basically, Paul gladly took donations from Storm Front saying it's better to use that money than give back because it wasn't his problem if Storm Front thought mistook his message as sympathetic to their cause.

Image is everything, however, in politics and Barr did himself a favor by telling this hateful fringe group he didn't want their misguided support.

Hollywood hypocrisy ..

'Green' Stars Talk the Talk ... but Do They Walk the Walk?

Laurie David, producer of Al Gore's Oscar-winning global warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" and estranged wife of actor/writer Larry David, has become one of the most widely known environmental activists. But Jackie Mendez-Diez, David's neighbor in celeb-popular Martha's Vineyard, Mass., told FOXNews.com she's a hypocrite.

"I normally wouldn't care, it would just be between neighbors, but this woman was going around the country telling everyone to reduce their carbon footprint, and I really objected," Mendez-Diez said.

"She built this reputation on confronting people about their lifestyle — about what kind of car they drive, about everything they do — and in her personal life she took 75 acres of undeveloped wetlands and developed swimming pools during a six-year construction project. It's ridiculous!"

[...]

Green activist Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly flew his family from Paris to Rome on a private jet in 2006; he also reportedly declined a journalist's challenge that he never fly private again, though he has vowed to fly commerical as much as possible. Ken Sunshine, who reps Leo, recently told the New York Post's Page Six gossip column, "No star at his level flies commercial planes more than he does."

[...]

Green activist Brad Pitt still jets around with partner Angelina Jolie, according to published reports — recent trips include Los Angeles to New York round trip (carbon footprint: 1.814 tons), Chicago to Los Angeles one-way (carbon footprint: .798 tons) and from Los Angeles to Namibia (carbon footprint: 3.569 tons).

[...]

If the frequent use of private jets negates the impact of driving a Prius, flying your hybrid home from halfway around the world is also unwise — just ask Paul McCartney. The former Beatle-turned-environmental activist created an uproar within the environmental community when he had a new Lexus 600h flown to him in England from Japan via cargo plane rather than having

"It's like driving the car 300 times around the world," said Gary Rumbold of co2balance, an international company that works with businesses and individuals to reduce carbon emissions. It was not clear if McCartney knew the vehicle would be sent to him via air freight rather than by ship. EDIT by GR: To his credit I remember hearing that McCartney was unaware of the shipping details and was upset when he found out.

[...]

Former Live Earth spokeswoman Madonna is one of the worst offenders, Buckley says — but that's not entirely her fault, considering her profession and the wattage of her star power. His calculation of Madonna's 2006 carbon footprint is about 1,018 tons — 651 tons from touring that year, mainly from flying on private jets.

Using TalkLeft as a Hillary predictor.

You know, like they use groundhogs on Groundhog day to predict how long winter will last.

If you look over at TalkLeft (not recommended) you'll see they've had 4 consecutive threads this morning that weren't about the 2008 election, Hillary or the like.

That tells me it's over for Hillary and they know she's dropping out Wednesday. All I can say is Thank God.

…………

So what will be their next focus, I wonder...

will they start knee-jerk bashing McCain like good little Democrats?

will they keep knee-jerk bashing Obama like bad little Democrats?

or

Will they become a Hillary-nostalgia site with a "WWHD?" feature? (What Would Hillary Do?)

………… parent

Some of them will. Let's hope the priciples readjust their

sites and goals cause now bashing Barack has been their focus.

Some of the frequent commentators there that are most noxious really should just get their own blogs. They've used TL as a soapbox to make claims that the Democratic Party is a sexist lying awful sack of sh*t. They won't stop & they'll continue to use Hillary as their foil no matter what Hillary does.

Honestly it isn't as if the Democrats don't deserve some outside oversight, but what they've had going over there isn't oversight at all. I'd call it an insurrection, but those that were advocating it really only had one goal in mind, a female in the White House. I think a female in the White House would be perfectly fine. Let her, whomever it will eventually be, win the nomination.

Here's where to look:

Electric Ladyland
Axis: Bold As Love
Jimi Play's Monterey
Band of Gypsys

And I'm not even listing Hendrix's first album either. There are vinyl discs I have that never made it to CD because the family sued the scummy manager who had been taking all Jimi's Royalty money. While I feel for the family, I still have the albums and I'm not listing them here either. These include Rainbow Bridge, Crash Landing & Midnight Lightning.

I spent a bit of time with Jimi playing in the background growing up.
