C'mon Ender...Obama has a big enough bandwagon for you.

I mean, look at what McCain stands for...this week at least. he wants open borders to all cheap undocumented workers. He (and his Financial guru Phil Gramm) wants to allow banks to continue to make bad loans to people who won't pay them back and bill the rest of us, move more corporations off shore so it's just us holding down the tax base. Hey, also don't forget the joys of 100 years in Iraq, even if all the Iraqi principles (except PM Maliki) want the US Forces out.

You have to admit, Barack is very tempting....

…………

eh

Sorry, Barack is not tempting for me. He is a liberal. Liberals are not tempting :)

While I don't agree with McCain on some things, he is a lot closer policy-wise to what I want in America than Barack.

Also I just got this lovely thing from Redstate which makes me like Barack even less.

Plus Hagee is not as bad as the liberals make him out to be. Certainly a lot better than the characters Obama is associated with.

That's funny. Let's compare shall we:

Rev Wright said God Damn America because of slavery & racism.
Hagee (& the other McCain Revs) said God Damn America because of gay rights.

Hmmm - I'm going with Wright & Obama on that one.

McCain's Cheif Economic Advisor Phil Gramm tried to get the state of Texas to sell bonds to buy life insurance on state employees. Not insurance to help support the employees' families, you understand. No, that would be liberal. Insurance whose proceeds were to go to Gramm's employer, UBS, which would use them to pay off the bonds and then share the profit with various state pension plans.

The fact that Phil Gramm was peddling this ghoulish scheme tells you right away you don't want his hands anywhere near the levers of power, which is where they would be should John McCain become President. (The fact that the Republican-dominated government of Texas decided to take a pass suggests either that their morals are better than Gramm's or that they have more political sense than he does.)

So in Phil Gramm, chief economic adviser to John McCain, we now have:

1. The Senator whose financial deregulation bill helped create the current crisis;
2. The man who cashed in on that accomplishment by becoming the vice chairman of a big Swiss bank, which until two years ago was running a tax-evasion racket for U.S. millionaires on the side;
3. The lobbyist for that bank (awash in bad mortgage-backed paper) who crafted John McCain's non-response to the foreclosure problem; and
4. The sponsor of a scheme in which that bank and the State of Texas would gamble on the deaths of Texas schoolteachers and other public employees.

In short, Phil Gramm is the poster child for the heartless, corrupt, revolving-door Washington which John McCain has always railed against and has always exemplified.

Barack Obama has no one that I could compare in this manner.

Once again - I'm going with Obama on this subject.

So...come on down! The bandwagon wants you!

Ooops, you have a typo. Let me fix that for you...

Perhaps you are correct

Fascism appears to be making a popular comeback.

Just this morning FIA President Max "Mad Max" Mosley won a vote of confidence. The FIA is the international motorsports governing body.

Mosley, whose father was a famous British fascist, was caught on videotape with five hookers doing a Nazi labor camp/S&M fantasy thing.

Bush Guilty of “Gross Incompetence and Dereliction of Duty”

Guess who said that? It's Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the man who led American ground forces in Iraq from 2003-2004. C&L has some excerpts from Sanchez's new book which is titled "Wiser in Battle - A Soldiers Story ". Here's one good one:

"In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, I watched helplessly as the Bush administration led America into a strategic blunder of historic proportions. It became painfully obvious that the executive branch of our government did not trust its military. It relied instead on a neoconservative ideology developed by men and women with little, if any, military experience. Some senior military leaders did not challenge civilian decision makers at the appropriate times, and the courageous few who did take a stand were subsequently forced out of the service."

Obviously we have a case here of someone who really, really hates our troops.

That's awful!!

If the guy who did this was, indeed, driving while drunk, he should be pulled off the road, stripped of his driver's license, and sent to jail for awhile, especially because his irresponsible behaviour resulted in the death of one of the bicycle racers.

The police also didn't handle the situation very well. They should've cordoned off at least that part of the highway where the bicycle race was going on and closed it to motor vehicular traffic of any kind.

A couple months ago, near Toledo, Ohio, a man was drinking at a bar with friends. Instead of walking across a parking lot to his hotel, he got in his truck and went to Taco Bell, the employees there noticed he was drunk and called the police. The man left before the police arrived, went the wrong way on the highway and ended up killing five people .

The driver was probably too drunk to actually decide to drive. IMO, its more of case of guy deciding to drink and then blacking out.

Obama's current ex-pastor admits he lies ...

or at the very least he hides his "real" views from people outside of the church.

'This is a dangerous time in America . . . you have to whisper your thoughts'

[...]

All that is well and good, but how, as a friend and passionate supporter of Obama's campaign for president, could he do what he did, with cameras rolling?

Pfleger's short answer? He didn't think the service and his "conversation" -- a more casual address than a classic sermon, he explained -- were being broadcast live online, as Trinity often does.

"They told me it was down," Pfleger said. "Their live streaming had been down all day, and they didn't know whether it was back up. . . . I regret the dramatization that I was naive enough to believe was just going to be kept among that church."

[...]

In other words, he says things behind the scenes that he won't say in public. Hmmm. Why would a person of integrity need to have two sets of statements, one public and one private? Because in public he doesn't say what he means, he only says what he thinks will fly. My, what in interesting insight into the culture of the church that Obama called home for 20 years.

More guilt by association? Bah.

My, what in interesting insight into the culture of the church that Obama called home for 20 years.

Pfelger is not from Trinity. He's a Catholic priest.

Why would a person of integrity need to have two sets of statements, one public and one private?

There are plenty of things I'll say to friends and family that I wouldn't want broadcast to the world at large. In fact, just now I said to a co-worker, "Jees, this guy GoRight is a real #$^%#!," but I wouldn't say that on a public blog... Uh... oops! :)

Most importantly, however, if you honestly think that a candidate is answerable for the character of every person that ever breathed the same air as him, then you will never find a candidate worth voting for.

Oops, I stand corrected.

Pfelger is not from Trinity. He's a Catholic priest.

I thought that odd. So was he a guest speaker or what?

Either way, he was speaking at Trinity, I guess I am assuming since this was a Trinity related piece and it was their live streaming that was involved, and obviously was saying things that he thought that congregation would resonate with behind the scenes but which aren't suitable for public consumption?

The point is not guilt by association. That is a strawman you have created as a distraction. The point is to look for clues as to Obama's character so we can judge him based on the content of that rather than the color of his skin. He obviously felt comfortable enough as part of that culture to stay there for 20 years, so the nature of that culture is a valid way to assess how his true beliefs tend to align with his rhetoric. It's not like this was a casual relationship he had with that church, they have a 20 year history.

Heh. I understand this. But I guess it must be a liberal thing ... saying things behind people's backs that you wouldn't say to their face (i.e. in public). That's what this is, right?

UPDATE:

Yes, he was speaking at Trinity. From the same article I posted above ...

As for his performance from the Trinity pulpit at a Sunday night service May 25, Pfleger has apologized for "the words that I chose" and for "my dramatization."

Comedy

... saying things behind people's backs that you wouldn't say to their face (i.e. in public). That's what this is, right?

Not exactly, although in Pfelger's case there is definitely a strong element of that. He would likely not have said the things he said if Hillary had been present. But it is also what you are willing to reveal about yourself, in public vs. among friends. You may be right that this is not a valid defense of Pfelger, but I honestly do believe that there are non-sinister reasons for "a person of integrity... to have two sets of statements, one public and one private." Among them is the knowledge that people that know you well are better able to judge how serious you are about certain statements - it's easier to do an over-the-top joke with elements that you truly beleive when you know the audience.

My honest impression of Pfelger is that he was squarely in comedian mode during these particular statements. He certainly had a better comedic delivery than anything I've ever seen from Ann Coulter, who, and I believe you agree, is probably judged best as a comedian as well.

And as far as what this shows about Obama's character, I guess I'd rather have a president who is not easily offended, not quick to judge harshly, able to hear arguments that he disagrees with, and has a sense of humor. (Bush at least qualifies on the last, not sure about the rest.)

In some respect I'm glad for the obsession with Obama's pastor.

It shows there's not a lot much more to attack him on. So please, run this into the ground so people are tired of hearing about it by November, and we'll still have plenty of ammo to toss at McCain. Cheers!

Nice son you got there, shame if something were to 'appen to 'im

Brandon Friedman (who I make a habit of reading on a regular basis) discusses the recent emergence of some less than ethical means that the US Army is using to bolster its sagging numbers. The latest measures involve using thinly veiled threats and intimidation to coerce inactive soldiers to reenlist (Along the lines of: "If you don't reenlist now with me, you could be more likely to get deployed in a combat situation..."). There is no merit to the assertions and insinuations, of course.

Keep in mind, Army recruiters are turning to these dubious methods after test standards have been lowered to dangerous levels, moral waivers have been issued with greater leniency, past misconduct has been increasingly overlooked, injuries/physical limitations discounted, bonuses raised and a host of other measures have been adopted to counter the effects of the Iraq war on enlistment/retention.

...

Captain Brandon Friedman recently became personally acquainted with this new recruitment/retention method. Actually, it wasn't Friedman himself that was on the receiving end of these strong-arm tactics, but his mom.

Italics Eric Martin, bolding mine. Friedman's site goes into great detail, if you like reading that sort of thing.

I guess when herding in idiots, criminals, and disabled wasn't enough to keep recruitment/retention levels up- well you gotta make em an offer they can't refuse.

Meh.

This is retarded. If you actually read the Friedman piece it is clear that:

(1) They wanted to get in contact with Friedman, that's it.

(2) We never really hear the NCO's side of the story because Friedman, assuming this is a valid rendition of what occurred, never gave them a chance to explain. He just assumed their intent.

(3) Pressuring his mom would make no difference to Friedman's decision, so what would be the point?

(4) If Friedman is actually eligible to be involuntarily recalled as was implied, I can only assume that the Army already has a valid address to contact him ... so again, what would be the point of hassling his mom?

You hear what you want to hear, I guess.

Not suprisingly,

the office was never designed to be the powerful, kingly monolith our modern political culture (ancient and instinctive human nature?) has come to want it to be.

Expecting so much of one man is always going to be a disappointment for most everyone....and then we renew our search for the holy grail four years later and so on.
