June polls show Obama opening a wide lead over McCain in electoral votes. It's still very early, but right now it appears Obama will contend for red states while McCain won't be able to make inroads into the blue states.

George W. Bush Sewage Treatment Plant
At first glance, this might sound like a fitting tribute:
But is it really fair to those sewage professionals who dedicate their lives to providing a valuable public service to crap all over their profession like that?

But is it really fair to
Maybe, in the decades to come, the people of SF will be tired of other people's "bush"

It is clever, but a bit backwards
In this administration after all, crap is the OUTput.
Unite for Change
house parties are happening all over the country today to build grassroots support for Obama. We're having one at our house, should be interesting.
I must admit I'm tempted to set up a shrine to "Obama the hope-bringer" just to watch the reaction as people walk in.

Good for you!
I have to work for a little while, and then I will be going to the local Carpenter's Union picnic, where I will be doing some serious hope mongering, for our cult leader Obama the Great, or maybe I should say Obama the Greatest. :)

Good luck with the hope mongering!
Don't forget to bring the magic Change dust =)

Sorry I can't share in your optomism, everybody,
but I think the fact that BHO recently capitulated on the FISA Bill is truly an indication that he's not any more trustworthy than most of the other politicians regardless of t heir stripies/political persuasions who folded and fell into line
behind the Bush Administration regarding this important matter, which involves the 4th Amendment of the U. S. Constitution that advocates protection against unreasonable search and seizure, as well as our rights to privacy. Moreover, given BHO's slick, phony and charisma-ridden style, when he comes on like a salesman with his speeches about change, hope, unity, etc., it's not surprising. Frankly, I smelled a rat from the beginning and kind of knew that BHO would do something like that. Do we really and truly want the government listening in on our phone calls, intercepting our email, and to know that one's house could be searched without rhyme or reason, and something be confiscated that looks somehow suspicious? Hell, I think not. Granted, the Republicans created this whole situation, but there's
absolutely no excuse what. so. ever for anybody to have capitulated to t hat. Moreover, considering what BHO claims to stand for, and all his lofty talk about change, hope, unity, etc, his capitulation to the FISA bill is hypocritical, indeed. Anybody who thinks that this capitulatiojn is no big deal just might want to think again. I think it was sneaky, and, given all the phony charisma that BHO exhibits, there's no telling what he might do next, imho. Therefore, neither he or McCain will get my vote in the fall. Rather than sit home on Election Day in November, I will go to the polls and do a write-in of a polittician (not on the ballot, of course) that I find more appealing than t he Presidential candidates that we presently have.
Sorry to rain on everybody's parade here, but that's how I feel
You've got a lot of choices
Nader, Barr, McKinney, Baldwin.
Alan Keyes is even running as an indy now.
I'm leaning toward Nader at the moment, but I'll wait to see if Obama can recover from his error.

I still plan to write somebody in at the voting polls, and
it won't necessarily even be one of the one's that you've listed. Thanks, though.
That's your right
But do realize that in many states if you write in a candidate's name who hasn't registered as a write-in, it is recorded in the returns as an undervote. I know this is the case for Ohio.

Nader? You must be joking
I wouldn't vote for him if he were running for county commissioner. He's an authoritarian wannabe, a megalomaniac who was so hungry for attention he accused Obama of "talking white."
He's lower than pond scum. I'd vote for McCain before I'd vote for Nader.

Admit it
You secretly hate all people of Middle Eastern decent that turn down "free gifts" from GM.
C'mon, he was on Sesame Street, Sesame Street has a strict no authoritarian policy.
Or are you just upset at OSHA for having your employer have guidelines for how to use a small step ladder?

I take it
you wish Hillary was the nominee?
Since she also was missing in the Senate the day of the vote, do you think her position would have been any different.
__________________________It is the economy, stupid.
I'm not talking about Hillary Clinton, missliberties.
The fact is that there were others in the running (not Hillary Clinton) who would've been far better Presidential Material, who dropped out, at least in part because of being treated like scum by the public at large, due to telling the whole truth from the bottom of their hearts, and/or not having enough charisma to satisfy people. That, imho, is disgusting. Had these other frontrunners had better treatment, we'd have much better choices.
missliberties, if you've got a problem with my chosen plan, I'm sorry, but that's how intend to work.
No problem
You are free as a bird. Do and say what you wish, and please no need to apologize.

It is odd, it is odd to say the least.
One of BHO's talking points is to to say that a vote for McCain is a vote for Bush43's 3rd term.
BHO later sides with Bush43 on FISA with a more or less the Constitution is just a "God damn piece of paper" approach on peoples Constitutional rights.
Is BHO waiting 'til November to ask us to vote for none of the above?

A likely power grab :)
Without any checks Obama will be able to spy on Republicans at will.
Some say he is the second coming.
Others say he is the second coming of Hitler

missliberties and Brutus14:
Just the fact that Obama capitulated on the FISA Bill and decided to take t he Bush Administration's side on the notion that the "whole U. S. Constitution is just a piece of paper" and essentialy folded and fell into line with other politicians including Democrats Pelosi and others just to save his own hide, is just as big a scoundrel as most of the rest of them. Talk is cheap; it means nothing unless it's backed up with actions/behaviours that're similar to it. Actions speak louder than words. Kapich?!?
First up capitulation
next up appeasing moderates.
Obama has turned into a veritable monster.
Somehow I imagine it's not an easy trick building strong coalitions of diverse cross sections of America. From New York to Appalachia, from Oregon to Texas..... there is a whole lot of diversity in there.
Which is why the universal language of fear has historically been such a politically popular uniter!
Is there anything you find in common or to like about Mr. Obama at all.
There are always local officials, who you can vote for also to help create the changes you desire.
__________________________It is the economy, stupid.
You're missing the point, missliberties.
Nonetheless, this:
does not make a viable excuse for BHO to have capitulated to the FISA Bill like that. I understand what you're suggesting, missliberties, and I'm
not buying it. Again, as I said before, I cannot and will not support somebody who decides to throw even part of our Constitution under the bus just to save his own hide.
Your point is not missed
To repeat and clarify for you that I understand, you are not supporting Barack Obama because he has crossed a line that for you is a step too far. I get it.
Good luck in your search for the perfect candidate. I don't think any such animal can exist in the world of politics. Though like I said putting your energy to support local candidates is one way to clear out the system of rot.

may the best man win
You guys may like "the best man
" -- it's an old (1960's?) movie based on a play by Gore Vidal. It basically follows a Presidential candidate and how he stands up in the face of rampant opportunism in politics.

Barbara Slavin one of my favorite correspondents wrote this in depth and concise article on Iran.
It's about 20 pages in pdf form.
Even more interesting is she will now be writing for the Washington Times.
