Rest in Peace Tony Snow - Tony Snow, Former White House Press Secretary and FOX News Anchor, Dies at 53 - one of my all time favorite anchors and Bush admin officials. You always had a smile on your face, even when the end was close. I'll miss you.

Condolences to Tony Snow's family.
One could only imagine the evasive answers he's giving to St. Peter right now. While that stuff worked supremely well with a compliant American MSM, I don't think it'd be so effective at the entrance of the Pearly Gates.
Won't Tony be surprised to meet his eternal companion Lucifer. It'll be just like when he was Press Secretary.
That is, if you believe in that sort of thing.

Tony Snow was a class act
May he rest in peace and may his wife and children find comfort in their grief.

Yea, I've heard that Ken Lay
was a real classy guy as well.
I prefer
not to trash people on the day they die. To me it's a common courtesy.
No matter what political differences I might have with someone, I try to maintain civility when it comes to personal tragedy. I despise many people in the Bush Administration or Congress for their policies and attitudes and actions, but I do not wish them harm or death. And when they die, I extend condolences to their families.
Politics is coarse enough in this country without ripping people apart before they are even cold.
History will render judgments on Jesse Helms, Tony Snow and others. It's not my place to do it on the day they die.

I agree in most respects
Usually, I just think how bad it must be for that person and their family.
Tony Snow was an alright person. He played for the wrong team, but he was a decent human being.
Jesse Helms, on the other hand, was not. I was glad when I heard that he died and I hope he died a painful death. He makes me wish there was a hell so people like him can go to it.

But what is surprising
is that there are still people in this country who defend these criminals.

This is old news...
The US asked the Hafield's in Afghanistan where the terrorist were and they pointed out the McCoy's were the worst of the worst. This likely happened elsewhere too.
I just wonder if the POTUS at the time had a D attached to his name. How loud the calls for impeachment would be from the Rush Limbaughs of the world if the executive branch was taking actions to that would go straight into terrorist recruiting films.
If the "innocent" people are let go, the the US gov't might have to actually have somewhat reliable intel on the detainees, besides intel from unverified informants.

People tend to forget
that back in the 90s the Republicans were screaming about how Bill Clinton as stretching the military too thin in Bosnia. Clinton was wrecking the military, they said.

Iraqi Sunni Sheik tells US Sunni's are getting the shaft by
the current Iraqi government.
"He tells U.S. general Baghdad leadership is stalling projects. Up to now we have seen nothing from the government," Sheikh Ayad al-Jabouri, wearing traditional headdress and robe, said with more than a hint of disdain for the Shiite-dominated leadership in the capital.... Highlighting an issue that poses risk for sustaining the recent security gains, al-Jabouri complained bitterly to Hammond about Baghdad's refusal to permit Sunni volunteers - called the "Sons of Iraq" by the Americans - to join either the Iraqi army or police. There are about 1,300 in this area; they are paid under American contracts to temporarily provide security in their neighborhoods... The sheikh railed against the government, saying "some are executing Iranian orders." But he also said members of his Sunni sect are not blameless. By refusing to participate in past elections, the Sunnis allowed the creation of an "unbalanced government," he said. "(Key) government offices are occupied by one side," he added, referring to the Shiites' dominant position in Baghdad."
Let's all hope the efforts of the US don't go down the tubes before or after the Iraqi elections. If any of these groups decide to sit out the elections, I fear all our efforts will have been in vain.
Somehow in the midst of all this, I see a better opportunity for a diplomatic approach vs heavy handed approach. But in order to do that you have to be willing to talk to those you don't like or agree with. bush43 has said they won't do that. Will McCain be willing to do that? Statements he's made & making seem to indicate he wouldn't. Bravado is more his preference. Will Obama be able to do it? Depends. Depends whether he thinks it's in his political best interests. Too bad about that. Instead of someone who leads by principle he's showing he's every bit as good at triangulation as the Clintons were. Maybe Hillary did a mind meld with the guy when the two of them met at DiFi's house last spring,
Who knew it was Sen. Chuck Schumer that caused IndyMac's demise?
Well, apparently the rightwing blogsphere did:
Senator Schumer Causes Bank Failure.
Bank Collapses. Feds cite Sen. Chuck Schumer as "immediate cause" of collapse.
Chuck Schumer, bank killer
.
Who knew Chuckie was such a monster?

Was that another way of saying "Man that points out there is a pink elephant in the room is the cause of an elephant panic"????

Blame the messenger
This is a classic case of blame the messenger. The only difference here is that those doing the blaming assert that if no one would have heard the news, the event reported would have never happened.
One would assume that if a single person could take down a bank with comments, that bank wasn't very sound to begin with.
Why comments about solvency would cause a bank run is a mystery to me. All deposits up to $100,000 are insured. If you have more than $100,000 in deposits at a single bank you're both too stupid and too rich to have my sympathy anyway.
