During student protests in 1999 Iran, Ahmed Batebi was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He waved a bloody shirt to discourage other students from going outside to march. The Economist captured the image, and it both changed his life and saved it. The New York Times tells the tale , and the Economist has a shorter version . There's not much else to add because Mr. Batebi's story reveals plenty about the Iranian regime, and I'm sure his story isn't the only one when it comes to the regime's brutality against its own people.
