Your linked source was corrected.

From you link to RedState:

UPDATE: The Alaska Democratic Party says it did not release the information. From Ben Smith, at the Politico, I got this: Our story doesn't say that "Alaska Democrats" gave us that document. It was a document prepared for Tony Knowles two years ago. We haven't revealed our source. You should also note that it's a partially REDACTED social security number. That seems relevant. If less sensational. It's missing four digits.

Read it again sport....

Here's how its gone down - Pretend there are blockquotes, ok ;-)...

The Politico has received an opposition research file from the Alaska Democrats. You can read it in PDF here.

In the file, the Democrats have released Sarah Palin's social security number minus the last four digits. Also tied to the information are her various home addresses.

Back in 2005, Democrats used Michael Steele's social security number to get his credit record.

It is atrocious that the Democrats would not only seek out Sarah Palin's social security number, but release it in opposition research to the press.

We need to know who did this. We also need to know what happened. We also need to know if it was used to bolster the Democrats' opposition research.

When it happened to Michael Steele, it turns out the Democrats knew about it and did nothing.

They cannot not take action now.

Here is the key take away: Yes, the SSN is redacted and people can pay for themselves.

Now, here are additional points:

1.

If the AK-Dems didn't do this, who did? Obama? The DNC? Who? They're releasing the whole thing now and letting the media make hay of it.
2.

Why didn't the SSN get fully redacted?
3.

It's ironic the party that thinks only Republicans invade privacy, invaded the privacy of Sarah Palin enough to learn her social security number and distribute it to the media.

"Now the Democrats have released SP's SS#"

You wrote above that "the Democrats have released SP's SS#"

The source in the link doesn't say what the source of the "leak" was, whether it was "a democrat" or "a group of democrats" or someone just opposed to Palin or another group.

And it was a partial SS#, thats a technicality in being wrong, but saying it was a "SS#" is somewhat misleading. Much like the difference in being dead and "not dead yet"

Thats what the RS link says.

You know - I'll be honest with ya...

...I'm a big boy - 6'3" 220lbs - I'm 44 yrs old and can carry the fight to the best of 'em.

But this whole Sarah Palin assassination attempt on the part of the left has shaken my faith.

My faith in any sort of accountability on the part of even the most respected of news organizations, my faith in the quality of gravitas in politics, and whatever shred of faith in the left I had retained has been eroded by their despicable willingness to sink to the rock bottom of journalistic decency!

From the absurd claims she didn't give birth to her son, to the release of her personal info, the left and their mean spirited attacks are disgusting, and I predict here and now, when karma comes in to play, and it will, and quickly too, the liberal world will deeply regret this!

My Response to Ben Smith's Response To Me

Posted by: Erick Erickson

<!-- sphereit start -->

You can see his response
here.

He claims my headline is misleading because I identify
"Democrats" as releasing the information.

if he knows that Democrats released it, he has better sources
than I do.

Who among you really believes a Republican did it?

He then writes

e Social Security umber is missing its last four digits. That
is, it's already been redacted, in an apparent excess of caution by
whoever prepared it from public record. You can't get very far with
a five-digit Social Security number.

As a lawyer, I know just how far you can get with a five digit
social security number. Ben must not be that up to snuff in
investigative stuff if he thinks otherwise. Likewise considering
they put up her date of birth, her home address, and the first five
digits, it makes it easy to get the other four.

All this by the party that "believes" in privacy rights.

On attributing the information to the "Alaska Democrats," yep, I
was wrong there. I misread.

But seriously, let's go back to the original point. Ben won't
reveal his sources. Are we to accept that the documents were just
hand delivered by media angels without partisan leanings?

I call bull.

Confused

Maybe things have changed since you posted this? I don't get it. The HuffPo article you link to doesn't seem to have anything at all to do with the SSN thing, and the RedState article says that it is Politico that has made the file available to the general public. So it seems to me that Politico (a fairly right-leaning site if I am not mistaken) is the party responsible for spreading Palin's SSN about willy-nilly.

Yes SL - Politico...

...spread it, he won't release his source, by the why I've always found them to be pretty even handed in their reporting.

I linked the HufPo story to illustrate even they think its out of control. Kind of messed that up.... ;-)

I guess that confirms that they are right-leaning! :)
