Tuesday Open Thread

The Fed is buying commercial paper in an attempt to inject liquidity into the markets. The second Presidential debate is tonight; we'll have a liveblog, and hopefully coveritlive won't restrict joining this time. The Nobel in physics was awarded for research involving symmetry breaking .

As the campaigning heats up and the charges and accusations and vitriol fly, I'd like to try our best to keep SC an oasis of civility. By all means lets discuss and argue the news of the day, but keep in mind that our fellow posters are here reaching across the partisan divide. Let's not allow the negative campaigning to corrupt our own level of discourse.

Your symmetry breaking link is broken! :)

It has an extra "<br />" in the middle of it.

Libertarian Radley Balko on why McCain is worse

than Obama, here :

One reason is that I’ve found McCain’s campaign to be nastier, more blatantly dishonest, and more insulting to the collective intelligence than the Obama campaign.

[...] I don’t think I’ve ever indicated that Obama would be good for libertarians or for limited government. I have no illusions about that. I just happen to think McCain would be a hell of a lot worse.

Can't be there tonight, unfortunately.

I've been doing some volunteer work with the No on Prop 8 campaign, and this has been a lousy week. For the first time since the proposition hit the ballot, we're losing in the polls (and a special shout-out to Senator Biden for making our job even harder. Thanks, Joe!)

Off to phone bank in a couple hours, so I'll have to watch the debate on repeat. Have fun without me!

Prop 8

out of curiosity do you know what is driving the change in polling? Has there been a concerted advertising push, and if so by whom?

I can't imagine the RNC or McCain are wasting money in California so I assume it would be Focus on the Family or a fellow traveler of theirs.

I came. I saw. I posted.

Absolutely - lots of money pouring in:

The Knights of Columbus fronted a cool million dollars - then add in Focus on the Family, the Church of Latter Day Saints, and plenty of other religious organizations.

Interesting

I didn't know the KofC did that kind of thing, though its not like I've paid them all that much attention so it's not a surprise I'm not up on their activities.

Putin in yet ANOTHER display of masculinity...LOL?

First we saw him shirtless while fishing.

Then he was pictured at the wheel of a massive racing truck and shooting a tiger in the Siberian forest with a tranquiliser.

He has also appeared operating a train, sailing on a submarine and co-piloting a fighter jet.

Now
Vladimir Putin - the world's most manly leader - has released yet
another display of his own masculinity: a DVD entitled 'Let's learn
judo with Vladimir Putin
'.
