While both are scary and distasteful, I much prefer Allen's honest bigotry, to Steel's subversive platitudes. Each knows their districts, and Allen figures he has enough bigots in Virginia to elect him. But at least those who vote for Allen know what it is they will get.
But if Steele won't even admit to being a Republican, what else is he not owning up to. There was a time when happy talk and bland comments meant that is what you could expect as a congresscritter, but in Rove's playbook, when he starts out saying that there is going to be a lot of negative attacks, it means that there is a lot of negative information that hasn't gotten out yet.
The Self Made Man is just not admitting where he got all the parts.

With respect to Steele's presumed skeletons in his closet, I just don't think that attempting to hide negative information is realistic anymore. In my view the choices are either acknowledge it upfront and try to move the discussion onward, or attempt to obscure and minimize it under a cloud of dirt flung in the general direction of the other guy.
