Oh the humanity ...
Is it not enough that the sexist Democrat party tosses poor Hillary under the primary bus, then they pass her over for the VP slot, and now they want to insult her with a flimsy SoS position? Why not offer her a maid's position as part of the 1st family's living quarters? Perhaps she could clean the toilets or something.
I'm not Hillary fan, but they way she is being treated is just reprehensible.

Do you believe that I would seriously equate ...
the SoS with being a maid? :)
Now seriously suggesting that Hillary should be cleaning toilets in the White House? That's another matter.

It's a valid question whether SoS would be a step up for Hillary, though. She might be better off, career-wise, sticking with senator.

If she feels she's being treated in a shoddy manner...
...she could always just say thanks but no thanks, right?
Six Presidents have held the office of Secretary of State: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren and James Buchanan. Something for Hillary to consider if she's feeling slighted.
skymutt: accept no substitutes!
She has been intimidated into knowing her place ...
by the sexist good ol' boys club that is the Democrat leadership. She has to walk very lightly to avoid having the hammer come down even harder. So I doubt that "thanks but no thanks" is really a viable option if she really wants any political future within the party. :)

Lost Respect
World leaders do not shake the Presidents hand blaming the Bush Brand of economic policy as an epic failure.
Even after injecting 700 Billion to bailout the credit markets, the idealoagues that have held office for the last eight years refuse to accept that their policy prescriptions that profit without limits or regulations is the purest motive for the greater good.
The fallacy persists even as foreclosure rates rise. Who has faith in a banking system that refuses to address the core problem which is renegotiating home loans to stem the loses to the banks bottom line.
Though the risk has been spread there is one common unit that can be traced through all the web of fancy financial dealings....... the homeowner! Help the homeowner stay in his home and we don't have to try and trace where the risk was spread. Why do the Bush people refuse to acknowledge this simple fact.
Insisting that mortgage lenders will voluntarily renegotiate loans so people can stay in their homes because it is to the lenders advantage, they just overlooked the fact that things are set up so the servicer, the individual gets a paid a service fee for foreclosing on a home and nothing to renegotiate the contract!

Got to meet stinerman today
He apparently signed papers for hi new crib is only about 5 miles from the skymutt ranch, so we've got yet another Central Ohio SC-er now.
Super nice young fella of course :-) Wiry, lean, average height, kinda pale complexion, looks like a wrestler who's trying to make weight at 141 lbs.

LULZ
Those were the days. I wrestled in the 130lb weight class my Junior year.
Skymutt is very tall. Very, very tall. And he refused to rib on me for voting for Nader. How nice of him!
Casa de Stine will be located here
. Its a 15 min. drive to work, but the rent was very cheap. I'm looking forward to paying back all my student debt in short order. You can do that when your monthly rent is less than 10% of your gross income. Obviously, the place isn't very nice, but all I need is a bed, a computer, and a toilet to be happy.

you say? Who knew.
Again congrats on everything. I am excited for you. It will feel fabulous to get out from under that debt!

I would never claim that skymutt was tall ... :)

my new BFF. I appreciate your efforts to elucidate all points of view. :)
We still did not get a physical description of yourself. Are you the medium tall guy in the extra large red flannel shirt from SE Ohio?
I'm only half stupid
I think skymutt did give a description after we met ...
although I don't know where it is. skymutt is definitely taller that I am.
I am average height roughly 5'8" and moderately over average weight 200+ lbs. When skymutt saw me I had a long beard reminiscent of ZZ Top. It is now much shorter and kept trimmed because of the baby. I tend to dress similar to what you might find in a rural farming community.

Everyone is "tall" when you're about 5'7 1/2".
"Very tall" is over 6' as far as I'm concerned.

I never envied wrestlers
I think that there is something slightly wrong about running several miles with a Hefty bag for a shirt for the privilege of getting twisted into a human pretzel. My best friend in high school was about 5'11'' and was constantly trying to make a very low weight, 119 I think. There are runway models who have a higher Body Mass Index than that.
skymutt: accept no substitutes!
It is difficult
No doubt about it.
There have been some new regulations in the past few years to help keep wrestlers from trying to cut too much weight. They are steps in the right direction.
High school sports are so competitive these days, that such regulations need to be almost overkill in order to stop unhealthy traning regimines.

For the privileges of twisting others into a pretzel
I call the people that run with trash bags what they are, idiots, there's a point where cutting weight is counter productive. And for most people that are around 5'11" that's 135 lbs. Some guys are sticks to begin with a few 5'11" guys aren't terribly more than 135 to begin with, but there are hardly anyone like that. Some people seemed to act as if cutting weight guaranteed an easier weight class. Some guy's wrestling styles and the styles of other local wrestlers make it counter productive to go to a lower weight class, sometimes a district at 152 might be easy compared to 140, all that extra effort to cut 12 pounds and go down 2 weight classes, just might keep that wrestler out of state.
From my experience, gaining weight quickly is harder than losing weight quickly Going from wrestling at 135 to having to weigh more than 148 to wrestle at 160 in 2 days while going through wrestling practice and having classes most of the day is not fun and hard as hell.

skymutt: accept no substitutes!
Heh, they came closer than that silly check mark ...
I would have disputed that check mark as well as any plain X's just so they are all captured and can be dealt with by the canvassing board at one time. Sure, it is a technicality but one worth flagging in my opinion until there is an official ruling on such things. Separate them from the ones submitted by people who can follow directions, or at least attempt to follow directions like the Republican voter that skymutt chose to deride while ignoring the stupidity of the check markers! :)
Note the instructions to the voters at the top of this sample ballot
:
Clearly check marks are invalid according to these instructions ... but I think Minnesota state law indicates that any mark that shows clear intent will be counted
. That leaves open the definition of "clear intent" given these clearly labeled instructions, not to mention common sense with respect to optical readers.

You need to see the whole ballot. For example, creative cropping of this one would make it an obvious vote for Franken. But get the whole picture, and maybe it's a vote for Lizard People!

-4 Strongly Disagree - 0 Meh - Strongly Agree +4I think that per the Minnesota State laws ...
this would actually be an over voted ballot for U.S. Senator and thus would not count as a vote from Franken:
Do you agree?
I'm the Bugs Bunny of Swords Crossed!
-4 Strongly Disagree - 0 Meh - Strongly Agree +4I would agree from a legal standpoint
But more so because of Subdivision 7, which states it more explicitly:
Although from the standpoint of common sense, I would say the intent is clearly a vote for Franken, since the voter filled in the circle for Lizard People for President, so knew that that was what was supposed to be done. I suspect, though, that the judges are directed to go by the letter of the law and not just honestly judge intent, so this should be rejected as no vote.

The inevitable
Unsurprisingly I've gotten banned from Redstate. The odd thing is what i got banned for It wasn't the things I said that were challenging to conservative viewpoints. Instead it was the (factual) claim that I'm a physicist that got me banned. Moe insisted I was lying about that claim due to a misunderstanding on his part.
Sort of surreal.
I came. I saw. I posted.

Sucks
That was the most arbitrary banning that I've ever seen. Moe must feel like a real man to wield such mighty power.

Am I mistaken or was Tlaloc already banned ...
from Redstate for something he considered silly. Wasn't there something about standards of proof, indictments not being convictions, or some such? Or was that something else?
As for Moe not believing Tlaloc is a physicist, based on my own interactions with him I can understand Moe's confusion in the face of Tlaloc's claims.

to write the diary on nuclear fuels that Moe had semi-suggested. I was in the process of pulling together the sources when I found out :)
Obviously I'd be writing the diary here now instead of there. But I haven't written any diaries in a while and it could even work as the much belated weekly science posts I was supposed to write.
