Citigroup is reportedly in talks with Morgan Stanley to partially merge their two businesses .  Morgan Stanley may buy a 51% stake in Smith Barney.  This deal would essentially merge their brokerage firms.

Ezra Merkin is Chairman of

GMAC LLC, an investment finance company associated with GM. Merkin is also hedge fund manager enmeshed in the Madoff scandal. He has resigned, as a condition of GMAC's qualification to receive a bridge loan from TARP.

Just in case you were wondering,  part of what happened to GM was the finance investment wing got a  little too creative with the credit and banking wing of the company. (Ezra Merkin, Bernie Madoff)

Let's not forget that GM actually makes a kick a** truck, the Chevy Silverado. The making of, and the financing of trucks are two separate wings of the same company. Blaming labor for the stupid mistakes of investors, that were flushing hot money through the system, is the wrong way to go. :-)

I wonder how much Israel's reluctance to put their soldiers at risk and willingness to kill Palestinian civilians is amplified or created by them being a conscript nation.

In our society, people are rewarded for pretending to be certain about things they're clearly not certain about. -- Sam Harris,

Bail...No Jail...

...for Madoff....

....Bush made some very revealing comments today, one of which caught my attention, he said essentially that he regretted his reaction to the economic crisis and wished he had stuck to free market principles and not listened to people (Hank Paulson) that were panicking and telling him that it could be another depression...

...Keep an eye out Thursday for Citibank and others to report earnings and it won't be pretty...

...Obama publicly requested Bush to ask Congress to spend another 350 Billion, maybe he should ask somebody where the first 350 billion is before we dump another 350 into the void...?

Underlying all arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself. ~M. Friedman

Anyway the story I wanted to quote is here .  The story revolves around a young woman auctioning off her virginity for 2.5 million pounds sterling.
