Monday Open Thread

I guess the media is trying to reinvigorate the Iraq debate in the eyes of the peons to smack McCain down. The obsession with showing death milestones for political purposes is repugnant.

Add to that McCain's Flirtations with the Democratic Party and we got a nice mini-assault on the GOP going :)

Have a great Monday!

Hat Tip to Logan at Freedom Democrats for continuing to cover Kevin Carson's discussion of Libertarianism and Liberalism.

***This is actually a follow up to Logan's original posting on the matter from a few days earlier.

Good Friday Open Thread

Some fat looking hispanic guy is going to endorse Obama. Who is that and why is this news? - I don't know...
Also lots of smoke blown from Obama's campaign over the passport 'breach' - is that supposed to be huge that someone looked at where he traveled? Did he go to Iran and USSR?

What do these two stories have in common? They are both designed and timed to take the pressure off the Wright debacle and to change the topic. Have a great Friday!

What's up with this youtube video defending China re: Tibet?

Just fandom, or organized? Look at the reams of positive comments (by people taking breaks from their power levelling jobs?)

I found it an interesting artifact of the net.

Thursday Open Thread

Bin Laden message threatens Europe - apparently Bin Laden does not appreciate freedom of speech and is trying to suppress it, albeit several years after the fact.
Agency OKs cheese steak shop's English-only signs - I wouldn't not have been surprised if it went the other way, suppressing our right to suggest that our preferred mode of communication is our Nation's primary language.

Wednesday Open Thread

Bush on anniversary: Iraq war must go on - I wonder if Obama or Hillary would do anything differently.

Pennsylvania's Murtha endorses Clinton - it's about time someone endorsed her :)

Have a great Wednesday!

Tuesday Open Thread

I've been out of the news cycle this weekend and now come back to the fun Obama controversy. Has the gleam faded a bit or is everyone clapping louder? :) Just checking.

Happy Tuesday!

Patriotism: What's it Good For?

That's the title and topic of this month's Cato Unbound .

For those not familiar, see About Cato Unbound . It's basically a lead essay on a provocative topic followed by two reaction essays which is then followed by further discussion.

Friday Open Thread

Protests in Tibet result in two deaths. So much for China's newer, softer image approach before the Olympics.

Due to Bear Stearns bail out, investors are bailing out . Do you think it is wise for a brokerage firm to have the word 'Bear' in its name?

How are you today?

Thursday Open Thread

ESPN : No joke: Billy Crystal is leading off for the New York Yankees. The comedian was put in the top spot for Thursday's exhibition game, listed as the designated hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wearing No. 60, Crystal got his chance a day before his 60th birthday. A lifelong Yankees fan, the righty was set to face Pirates left-hander Paul Maholm.

I wonder how he'll do... open thread for musings about sports, entertainment, and any other (less important) topics like politics =)

Competition is wasteful

Obama wins Mississippi, Spitzer to resign, and March madness is starting to heat up.

What's happening today?

Tuesday Open Thread

In the news: major suicide bombing in Pakistan; more information surfacing on the Spitzer scandal (tinfoil hat theory here ); Mississippi primary today, Obama expected to win heavily (but will he win in delegates? ); Endeavor launched on a 16 day mission to the ISS.

What's on your mind today?

Why politics cannot be captured by the intelligent, installment #45,869

That is the apt title used by Tyler Cowen in post at MR . I saw no reason to change it.

His post is in turn based on a post by my fellow "libertarian-tepidly-for-Obama", Megan McArdle .

Weekend Open Thread

Dem Wyoming caucuses are today (Romney won GOP back on Jan 5th).

Spain elections are this Sunday.
